The Red Marker Figma plugin is a “private” Figma plugin and is not available on the public plugin store. This means, to install and use the plugin:

  • Your organization will need to be on Figma’s Organization plan or Enterprise plan; and

  • You will need a user with Organization Admin status to complete the installation, via the Figma desktop app.

  • Your organisation will need to have Two Factor Authentication enabled to ensure the use of the plugin.

Once the private plugin has been installed and enabled in the desktop app, it will automatically be available for all your Figma users, in both the desktop app and browser.

If you are uninstalling your current Figma plugin before re-installing an updated version, please see our article here.

Enabling the Figma plugin

For further information on publishing private plugins, see Figma’s plugin resources.

  1. Ensure that your organization is using an Organization or Enterprise Figma plan, which allows the use of private plugins.

  2. Contact us at support@redmarker.ai (or through your client success contact) to receive a copy of the Figma plugin and supporting installation materials.

  3. Login to the Figma desktop app, ensuring that your user account is an Organization Admin for the Organization intending to use the Red Marker plugin.

  4. Create a new blank Figma file. Ensure you have edit permissions. Open “Resources” in the navigation bar (Shift + I) and click “Plugins”.

  8. Fill out the following details:

    1. Icon: red_marker_logo.png - supplied with plugin

    2. Cover art: red_marker_art.png - supplied with plugin

    3. Name: Red Marker

    4. Tagline: Red Marker

    5. Description: Red Marker’s powerful AI and automation enables marketers to scan their content in Figma for legal, compliance and brand risks before submitting them to the relevant teams for approval, reducing rounds of amendments and lengthy delays. This plugin allows users to select relevant frames from within their canvas to review. Any identified risks are inserted as Figma comments next to the frame, along with actionable feedback.

    6. Category: Design Tools

    7. Sub Category: Import & Export

  9. You will need to update the Plugin ID in the manifest.json. To do this, copy the supplied ID from Figma, paste it over the current id in the manifest.json, and save the manifest.json.

  10. Under “Publish to”, select your organization.

  11. Click “Publish”.

  12. Open the plugin listing in your browser. Ensure you have “Browse as an admin” selected. Then, click “Save this resource for everyone”.

Red Marker is now accessible to all users in your organization!

Before the plugin can be used effectively, you will also need to Allow Red Marker access to your documents. If you are updating the Red Marker plugin, rather than installing for the first time, you don't need to repeat this step.

Moving forward, you will also need to install updates to the plugin as required. Your Client Success manager will contact you with updates to the plugin as they are published. When the updated plugin is published to your organisation, users will lose access to the old version of the plugin.
